Pauline and I and our children spent the entire summer of 1976 high in the Swiss Alps, at L’Abri, so we could study under and be mentored by Francis and Edith Schaeffer. This experience changed our lives forever. This is no exaggeration.
In late January, 1977, we left Jamaica and moved to English L’Abri in Hampshire, south of London, to continue our studies under the Schaeffers and the English L’Abri staff which included Prof. Jerram Barrs, now the head of the Francis A. Schaeffer Institute at Covenant Theological Seminary, where he is Professor teaching the relationship of Christianity to contemporary thought and culture, which includes apologetics and philosophy of religion. Jerram, who has also authored several books, also became a dear friend and valuable mentor.
After L’Abri, we moved to Bristol in England to study at Trinity College under Dr. J.I. Packer and also studied homiletics and Biblical exegesis under Dr. John Stott, in London. After moving to the USA, I completed my Masters degree at Westminster Theological Seminary.
Despite all these studies, the things that we learned from the Schaeffers, combined with the experience of love and “community” at L’Abri gave us a solid foundation for the rest of our Christian journey, which we could not have learned or experienced anywhere else.

When I was at L’Abri I listened to all of Dr. Schaeffer’s lectures which were in the tape library, as well as reading his books and eventually watching his video series “How Shall We Then Live” which is available in my Amazon video library and is available for online streaming from Amazon.
